  3. You’re in My Space • Personal space – the sense of invisible boundaries around your body that separates you from other people.

  4. It Says “Me” “Home” is any four walls that can enclose the right person. - Helen Rowland

  5. It Says “Me” • Linens – household articles made from cloth such as sheets. • Trinket – a small decoration. • Valance – a short drapery hung across the top of thewindow.

  6. It Says “Me” • Here are some things you can use to make your space reflect you: • Floor treatments • Furniture • Linens • Room accessories • Wall treatments • Window treatments

Are you a Clutter Bug? • Develop a system for storage. • Use plastic tubs or boxes to organize items. • Label your drawers. • Put things that are alike in a box together. • Organize your closets so that like clothing items are together. • Example: put all your shirts together, all your pants together, etc.

  9. Are you a Clutter Bug? • Start a habit of putting items back where they belong as soon as you finish using them. • Develop a daily routine or time for picking up clutter. • Increase your storage space in closets by using double hanging rods and closet organizers.

Are you a Clutter Bug? • Store items near the place of first use. • Store items where they are easy to reach and see. • Each season, get rid of things that you don’t use or feel that you won’t have a future need for the item. • Donate clothes to the local clothes closet, magazines to paper recycling bin, etc.

  12. Clean, Clean, Clean • Upkeep will create a longer life for the object/article. • Promotes healthy living. • Saves time and energy. • Prevents accidents. • Reduces personal stress level. • Helps teens learn to practice a routine that can be transferred to their adult life.

  13. This Goes Here The typical poor American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe.

  14. This Goes Here • Focal point – an area of interest. • Traffic pattern – the flow through a room; paths around furniture, through doorways, etc.

This Goes Here • Consider the electric and light sources. • Map out the traffic pattern for the room. • Create a focal point for the room. • Place large pieces of furniture in the room first. • Have enough space around the piece of furniture so it can be easily used. • Group furniture where appropriate.

  16. I Need My Privacy! • Personal activity space – area in a room that is used for activities and entertainment purposes. • Personal privacy space – area in a room that is considered to be for one person’s use. • Sibling – a brother or sister.

I Need My Privacy! • Simple but effective ways to increase privacy: • Use room dividers. • Have an assigned personal activity space for each person who lives in the room. • Look for areas outside of the bedroom that could be used for personal privacy space. • Develop a schedule for room usage and follow it. • Use personal plastic drawers and boxes. • Use headphones.
