Exploring Magnitude and Phase vs Frequency Responses of Capacitor C3 in Circuit Simulations

This analysis presents simulation results comparing magnitude and phase versus frequency plots of a circuit with and without capacitor C3. We observe a bifurcated frequency response due to tolerance differences between the series resonant capacitors in the two branches. Incorporating C3 as a bridge between these branches unifies the response, bringing it back to a singular resonant frequency. This study highlights the impact of capacitor placement on frequency response characteristics in circuit design.

  1. Magnitude and Phase vs Frequency Plots

  2. In these Magnitude and Phase versus Frequency plots, we show simulation results for capacitor C3 included and with it excluded.

  3. Note the bifurcated frequency response arising from tolerance differences between the series resonant capacitors in the two branches of the circuit. Including C3 as a bridge between the branches results in the response being returned to a single resonant frequency.”
