  16. Range Setup • Unknown Distance Range With Capabilities to Fire 5.56 Ball Ammunition from 5-500 Yards • For the unknown distance stage of fire, multiple targets set at varying ranges (25-500 yards) are required for each target point

  20. Range Regulations • Enforced with: • MCO 3574.2_ (Latest Edition) • MCO 3570.1B (Range Safety) • MCRP 3-01A (Rifle) • Local and Range SOP

Range Regulations • Minimum Required Equipment: • Issued rifle/carbine (with RCO) with unit issued modular attachments. • Night Aiming Devices • Standard issue web or approved three-point/combat sling • Magazines (recommended 6 per shooter) • Standard issue magazine retention device (pouch or load bearing vest ect.) • Hearing protection • Eye Protection

  22. Range Regulations • Minimum Required Equipment • Flak jacket (body armor), helmet, and suspenders or load bearing vest. Attaching magazine retention devices directly to the flak jacket is authorized. • Night Vision Devices • Note: Water carrying device and cold or foul weather gear is authorized. Any addition tactical gear may be worn per the unit’s SOP on individual Marine’s fighting load.

  23. Range Regulations • Firing Position Requirements: • Must be Able to Assume Prone, Standing and Kneeling Firing positions • Importance of Building a Solid Shooting Foundation • Using Body and Associated Equipment IS Authorized to Use Artificial Support

  24. Range Regulations • Standing - Hips, torso and head will be squared towards the target assuming an aggressive, mobile standing position. - Both hands and one shoulder will support the rifle.

Range Regulations • Kneeling • The weak side foot, strong side knee and foot will support the body’s weight • The buttocks will be clear of the ground, but may rest on the strong side foot • Both hands, the sling and one shoulder will support the rifle • The arm supporting the rifle may rest on the knee or just inside the knee • The strong side elbow will not be supported

  26. Range Regulations • Kneeling • Magazine May Touch Clothing or Arm • Magazine May be Gripped Along The Sides • Butt Plate of the Magazine May be Used to Support the Weapon

  27. Range Regulations • Prone • Body Extended on the Ground • Head Towards Target • Both Hands, Sling, and One Shoulder Will Support the Weapon • Magazine Allowed to Touch the Clothing or Arm • Magazine May be Gripped Along The Sides • Butt Plate of the Magazine May be Used to Support the Weapon

  28. Range Regulations • Scoring Procedures Using Portable Target Stands • Targets Placed at 25 Yards • Shooters Fire One Complete Stage • Coach and Shooter Observe and Score • Shooters WILL NOT Touch target Until Coach has Scored • Once Scored Shooters May Begin to Pastie

  29. Range Regulations • Scoring Procedures Using Pop-up Targets/Steal • Targets Placed at Unknown Distance From 5-500 Yards • Shooter Will Fire One Complete Stage • Coach Will Annotate Each Hit or Miss • Coach Will Count Number of Hits to Shots Fired to get Score

  30. Range Regulations • Value of Shots • Table 3 Uses a Two Point Scoring System • Hits in Scoring Area are Two Points • Hits Outside Scoring Area are One Point • Unknown Distance is Hit or Miss

  31. Range Regulations • Pass/Fail Criteria • Must Achieve a 75% Hit Accuracy for Immediate Engagement Stages • Must Achieve a 50% Hit Accuracy for Unknown Distance and Night Engagements • Targets • Verifiers

Range Regulations • Corrective Action Procedures • Shooter is Responsible for Performing Corrective Action to get the Weapon Back into Action • Shooter will immediately finish the string of fire in which they experienced the stoppage or failure to fire • The firing line will not advance to the next string of fire until all shooters have completed the current string of fire

  33. Range Regulations • Corrective Action Procedures • Reinforce Idea of Staying in the Fight • Will be given the time to get the weapon back into action and finish the string of fire

  34. Secure Range • RSO/OIC Calls in “Cold” • Conduct and Check Police Call • Line Out • Ammunition Counts/ Turn in/ Expenditure Reports • Secure Range Flags and Materials • Police Call and Clean up in Pits • Dismiss Personnel on the Range • Turn in Range and Range Materials
