Software Developers Skills • Analytical Skills-Developers need to study a user’s needs and create software for those needs. • Communication Skills - Developers must be able to give clear ,easy-to-understand ,instructions. • Creativity- Developers must also be creative. • Customer-service skills-Developers must know how a product works. • Detail Oriented-Developers must be able to pay attention to detail while working on computers. • Problem-solving skills- Developers need to know how a computer works and how to fix it if anything were to go wrong. • Teamwork-Developers must be able to work together. • Technical skills- Developers must know how to create an effective piece of software.
Environment • Some Developers work away from the office. Most Developers work full-time for very long hours (40 hours a week in 2010).
Significant Points • System Software Developers create the systems that keep our computers working right. • Application Software Developers create games and other software for their customers. • Developers write flow charts that developers use to write computer code.
Training & Certification Developers must have a bachelor’s degree in: • Computer Science • Software Engineering • Or a related field. Developers must have a strong background in computer programming.
Job Outlook • Software developers employment is expected to grow 30% from 2010 -2020. The reason for this rapid growth is because of the higher demand for computer software. Developers are probably going to reach out to foreign countries but because they are so close to their customers , that option is limited.
Earnings (wages) • Developers make about $87,790 a year (May2010).Most Developers work full-time for very long hours,40 hours a week in 2010.
