Verb Tense. The tense of a verb indicates the time of the action Six tenses: past, present, future, past perfect, present perfect, and future perfect. Past Tense. happening in the past EXAMPLES : I wrote a letter to my sister in Greece. They saved me from the terrible specter.

  4. Present Tense • happening now • EXAMPLES: • I write a letter to my sister in Greece. • They save me from the terrible specter.

  5. Future Tense • happening in the future • EXAMPLES: • I will write a letter to my sister in Greece. • They will save me from the terrible specter.

  6. Past Perfect Tense • happening before a specific time in the past • EXAMPLES: • I had written a letter to my sister in Greece. • They had saved me from the terrible specter.

  7. Present Perfect Tense • happening before now, and may be continuing now • EXAMPLES: • I have written a letter to my sister in Greece. • They have saved me from the terrible specter.

  8. Future Perfect Tense • happening before a specific time in the future • EXAMPLES: • I will have written a letter to my sister in Greece. • They will have saved me from the terrible specter.
