  5. What is a Tree Diagram? Each branch represents a different possible outcome.

  6. What is a Tree Diagram? Each branch represents a different possible outcome. Since all outcomes are listed, you can use the tree diagram to determine the probability of any specific outcome.

  7. Example 1: Create a tree diagram to model 3 flips of a coin.

  8. Example 2: You are making an ice cream sundae and choose one of each of the following: Ice Cream: Vanilla, Chocolate, or Strawberry Syrup: Fudge or Caramel Topping: Sprinkles or Nuts Create a tree diagram to model the different sundaes that you can create.

  9. Practice 1: Malik has 3 different ringtones on his cell phone (r1, r2, and r3). The phone has a random ringtone feature that randomly selects a ringtone each time someone calls. Create a tree diagram to illustrate the possible outcomes if Malik’s cell phone rings twice.

  10. Practice 2: Bill, Ted, and Jim are competing in a footrace. Ribbons are awarded for first and second place. Create a tree diagram to illustrate all the possible outcomes for the first and second place ribbons.

  11. Practice 3: Bill, Ted, and Jim are competing in a footrace. Ribbons are awarded for first and second place. Create a tree diagram to illustrate all the possible outcomes for the first and second place ribbons. How many more possible combinations would there be if Sam also competed in the race?
