Clean Air Act By: Abigail Palkowitz • The Clean Air Act of 1963 was the first Federal legislation regarding air pollution control Amendments • The act was amended first in 1970 and 1977 than again in 1990 • 42 U.S.C. §7401 et seq. • 1970 amendments included pollution sources and mobile resources • 1977 major amendments were added for the Prevention of Significant Deterioration of air quality in areas • In 1990 amendments added addressing toxic pollution, acid rain and ozone depletion. It also expanded enforcement authority Functions • The act is protecting and improving the nation's air quality and the stratospheric ozone layer • The federal law that regulates air emissions from stationary and mobile sources • The EPA is responsible to make standards called NAAQS

The Clean Air Act controls air pollution • It requires the Environmental Protection Agency to enforce and develop regulations hazardous to human health. • This was the first major environmental law in the United States to include a provision for citizen • The Act is trying to inform the public health and welfare risks by widespread air pollutant Agency • The agency responsible for The Clean Air Act is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
