Route 29 SolutionsProgram Overview • The package consists of additional funding to complete four projects: • Route 29/250 interchange improvements (Best Buy Ramp) • Hillsdale Drive Extension • Route 29 widening, Polo Grounds Road to Town Center Drive • Adaptive signal technology on Route 29 • Full funding for three new projects: • Hillsdale Drive extension south to Holiday Drive • Berkmar Drive extension north to Hollymead Town Center • Route 29/Rio Road grade-separated intersection • Study and preliminary engineering: • Route 29/Hydraulic Road grade-separated intersection • Full funding for second train, Lynchburg to Washington, D.C.

Route 29 SolutionsPath Forward • VDOT is developing a design-build package • A project team has been organized, headquartered in the Charlottesville Residency office • A Project Delivery Advisory Panel, headed by Philip Shucet, representing local stakeholders will provide input throughout the program, with periodic reporting of progress to the CTB. • Construction will be complete in 2 ½ years with anticipated construction completion in late 2017.

  5. Route 29 SolutionsProgram Milestones 2014 July 10: 1st Advisory Panel meeting held. Initially to be held every 2 weeks and as needed through construction. July 24: Advertise RFQ Oct. 2: Advertise RFP Dec. 4: Technical proposals due 2015 Jan. 7: Price proposals due Jan. 16: Notice of intent to award Feb. 18: CTB approval / notice to award Spring: Design development / Public involvement Summer: Construction begins 2017 Fall: Construction complete Note: Incentives for early completion will be included in the Design/Build Contract.

Route 29 SolutionsCurrent Activities • Development of RFQ and RFP for advertisement • Field and aerial surveys of project corridors • Geotechnical surveys to determine subsurface conditions • Project specific environmental field work for historic and natural resources • FHWA concurrence on appropriate level of NEPA document where applicable • Traffic counts to determine baseline volumes (summer and fall) • Public involvement / Advisory panel meetings
