Understanding Feudalism: Structure and Social Classes

DESCRIPTION

Feudalism was a hierarchical system of governance characterized by local rulers known as lords or nobles, who received land in exchange for military service to higher lords. At the top of the feudal system was the King, representing the Royalty class. Below the King were the Nobility, comprising lords and nobles who managed land and provided protection. Knights, part of the warrior class, served as vassals to the lords. At the bottom were the Peasants or Serfs, who worked the land and made up the Peasantry class, primarily serving the nobility.
