September 2013 LCCU MeetingScan to PC • Using an All-in-one printer or flatbed scanner: • First, install scanner driver and software on PC, then connect scanner to PC or to network: • With USB connection or • Wired network connection or • Wireless network connection • Note – When upgrading to Windows 7 or 8, you may need latest drivers from the internet, search for brand, model and “drivers”.

September 2013 LCCU MeetingScan to PC • Scanning steps, using software: • Select image type – color, grayscale, B&W. • Select resolution or destination – web, print … • Select image adjustments - brightness, sharpness, contrast, descreening. • Run preview scan. • Adjust marquee if needed. • Run scan. • Select location and Save.
September 2013 LCCU MeetingScan to PC • Scanning in image editing software – all use scanner’s software instead of default software: • Irfanview, Select Scan/TWAIN source, Acquire; can convert to text with OCR. • Picasa, Import from, select scanner or camera, saves image to selected folder. • GIMP – Create, Scanner/camera, transfers image into program for editing. • Adobe Photoshop Elements – File, Import, transfers image into program for editing.

September 2013 LCCU MeetingRestoring Files from a System Image • Windows System Image must have been run before losing the file. Not available in XP or Vista Home. • See “How to Recover Specific Files from a Windows System Image” • Click Start, right-click Computer, click manage, click Disk Management on left. • Click Action, Attach VHD. Browse to the .vhd file in the backup folder named SystemImageBackup, subfolder with your username. If there are two .vhd files, it’s the larger one. A new drive should show up using the next available letter. • Autoplay will show up. Browse and copy needed files. • When done, go back to Disk Management, right-click drive for vhd and click “detach”.
