  1. Scientriffic! Summary The “Scientrrific!” project focusses on stimulating children’s interest in science from an early age by capturing their imagination and engendering scientific enquiry through practical and playful investigations. Science specialist staff at Oldham Sixth Form College work in consultation with Primary Schools in developing and delivering stimulating and engaging science events for Primary School pupils at the Regional Science Centre Oldham. The Centre and its activities provide a resource for the town and sub-region, working in partnership with schools and other providers in providing a unique, exciting and aspirational environment through which science is delivered in an innovative, stimulating and creative way throughout all stages of learning, beginning with Key Stages 1 and 2. Activities are delivered in state-of-the-art facilities consisting not only of laboratories, but also utilising the Centre’s Science Exhibition and display area. Science mentors deliver a suite of short, medium and long-term science themed workshops in a dedicated school laboratory; a flexible, fully specified space for practical investigation of principles relating to the full spectrum of science. All activities are tailored to schools’ individual requirements. Topics include Forces, Reversible and Irreversible changes, Micro-organisms, Electricity, Light and Shadows, Sound and Separating Mixtures. Sessions are designed for children from reception (Early Years) to Year6. • Objectives • To engage young people using new and collaborative methods to supportformal and informal learning about science. • To stimulate Oldham Primary School pupils to enjoy science using practicalinvestigations that will be fun and engender scientific enquiry. • To deliver, utilising the Regional Science Centre facilities, a series of engaging and stimulating science themed events for Oldham Primary School pupils. • To enhance collaborative working between the Sixth Form College andOldham Primary Schools to promote the teaching and learning of science. • To evaluate the impact of events on the learning experience of pupils.
