  2. Objectives: students will be able to… • Understand how to use Access World News for research • Narrow down a problem in a specific location (town, city, or region)

  3. 6 Research Questions

  4. “Who, what, where, when, why, how?”Use both broad research and focused research together to answer these questions. • Broad Research: defining the general problem and possible solutions (CQ Researcher,Opposing Viewpoints, Gale Reference Library, Google Search) • Researching a Focused Location (City/ Town/ Region): who faces the problem? for how long? what details are relevant here? (Access World News, Newsbank, Google News).

  5. Tutorial on Access World News • Go to sites.psu.edu/ESLJournals and there you will find the links. • You can also just go to Try These First at libraries.psu.edu. • Then click on the link for Access World News (News Bank)

  6. Research Activity • Consult the worksheet available on Angel.

  7. Peer Review of Today’s Worksheet • Find a partner and discuss these questions: • Does your partner’s worksheet have 5-7 APA citations? • Do you think their problem is narrow enough? Why or why not? • What recommendations do you have for him/her?
