  3. Listening • PAYING ATTENTION! • Find the key • BE PREPARED MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY • FOCUS • SUMMARIZE AND CREATE LINKS BETWEEN • THE IDEAS AND CONCEPTS • TALK concepts of lecture • Sit where you can hear • Listen OPENLY • STAY TO THE END • REVIEW • READ THE SYLLABUS

  4. Why Take Notes • Helps you remember material • This will help you concentrate • Prepared for quizzes, exam, finals • Information can be valuable • Best tip write notes in your own words

What is important • Definitions, Terms, Repeated information • specific words/ Ideas • Write notes about things that you don’t understand • Look for main ideas supported by bullets, listings, names and dates • Don’t understand, then ask professor ? Lists ? Dates Bullets Words Terms ? Ideas ? ?

  6. Write It Down Do not write word for word Be brief Translate words Write legibly Spelling/Grammar? Re-write your notes after class and add from other people’s notes Draw pictures if needed

  7. Recorders/Print Outs Always ask professor iPods, laptops, recorders, iphones. Power points, handouts. Don’t relay on the professor to do work, this is just an extra sources of help. Write important events and dates in a calendar. Tip* Put your phone away if not need. Facebook.

  8. Organization Label Notebooks for each class Date and number pages Title for each day Use symbols and abbreviations UseCOLORS Highlighters/ colored pens Edit, Rewrite, add to notes To messy write it over

  9. Final college tip GO TO CLASS MAKE SURE YOU CAN READ YOUR OWN NOTES STAY FOCUSED
