  1. What do these pictures have to do with rotations?

  2. Amusement park rides, like the Ferris Wheel and the swing, allow you to experience the concept of rotation.

  3. Rotations can be seen in nature.  The leaf on this plant illustrates the concept of a rotation.  The center of rotation is the point where the leaf is attached to the stem.

  4. Rotations can be seen in planetary movement. Planets rotate around the sun

  5. Things to remember… • A rotation turns a figure through an angle about a point called the center. • When working in the coordinate plane, assume the center of rotation to be the origin unless told otherwise.  • A positive angle of rotation turns the figure counterclockwise, and a negative angle of rotation turns the figure in a clockwise direction. 

  6. Example 1: • This rotation 
is  counterclockwise.

  8. How do I do it? Easy! Just turn your paper • Move your paper in the same direction as the rotation • Relabel the axes x and y • Graph the original point on the new grid • Turn the paper back to normal and label the point you just drew
