  3. We will use Reading Street as a resource. The spelling and vocabulary words are pulled from the story we read each unit in Reading Street. Reading selections from Reading Street include fiction, fables, folktales, mythology, non-fiction, biography, and poetry. Our class will also be reading various picture books, non-fiction reading passages, and novels. We will be reading all the time!

  4. There will be no AR this year at OSUE. We have replaced Renaissance with iReady. I will be using Book Adventure in my classroom to motivate students to read. It is a program where students take quizzes on books they’ve read and earn rewards. (This won’t be taken for a grade) Reading journals will be used for independent reading. Students should be reading 20 minutes EVERY Night! Don’t forget to make it fun !

  5. Social Studies • Based on Mississippi history and state information • Taught through the Language Arts Program • Grades can range from daily work, to projects, to group work. • The Jackson field trip plays a vital role in our social studies curriculum.

Science Teaching Mississippi 4th Grade Science Frameworks through hands on activities such as gardening, pizza making, rocket building and launching, ice cream making, and pancake making. http://www.mde.k12.ms.us/curriculum-and-instruction/science Science Project is required but entry into fair is not Rocket launch in spring may require a small fee.

  8. Homework is assigned each day, and it is checked the following morning. • Graded for completion and effort • Reinforces skills and concepts

  9. Tests x4 Projects x3 Quizzes x2 Daily Grades and Homework x1 Please check your child’s Tuesday folder each week for graded assignments. You can also monitor your child’s grades through Parent Connect.

  10. We are a PBIS school which means we focus and praise positive behavior. For those who achieve all classroom and school goals, there are reward parties and other special weekly privileges and rewards.

  11. For those students who have difficulty maintaining positive behavior we have a discipline log and ladder.

  12. Our Brunch time is 10:10 and our recess time is 10:40. On Monday and Tuesday, Ms. Hirsch’s homeroom starts the day in Math and finishes the day in LA. The reverse is true for Mrs. Webber’s homeroom. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Ms. Hirsch’s kiddos start the day with her. And again the reverse is true for Mrs. Webber’s homeroom.

  15. Agendas-Once all students have agendas we will sign them each day. Students are responsible for writing their own homework and notes in it. Each student has a purple homework folder that is to come back and forth to school each day.

Places: Agriculture Museum, Sports Museum, and Science Museum, and Capital Students will bring a sack lunch and eat dinner at a pizza buffet in Hattiesburg Cost per student will be around $50.00 Students will wear their fourth grade t-shirt
