  1. Johnson Johnson was captured as a young man by the Portuguese and sold into slavery. n Bennett Plantation Anthony labored for 20 years and bought his freedom as well as Mary’s his wife. He owned 250 acres from headright system used by white gentlemen. Neighbor brought him to court because he said Anthony stole his indentured servant. Anthony won his case and john Casor was returned to him. Survived the 1622 Indian massacre. He also saved four other men. n the plantation in the North Hampton County, Anthony saws laws change that made life difficult for free African Americans. Ever would Anthony’s son enjoy the privileges of land ownership as their father had, Richard had his land taken by the courts.
