  2. Lincoln-Douglas Debate One person on each side (1v1) Lincoln-Douglas Debate will decidewhat is morally correct, or what “should” be done. Values, such as life, libertyor property, are considered and weighed in conflict with each other. Policy Debate Team event (2v2) and the longest running debate contest nationwide. Includes a lot of research and heavily uses evidence. May involve speed reading, or “spreading” in rounds. Resolution is the same all year—usually something that the United States Federal Government should do concerning policy-making. “Affirmative” versus “Negative” teams advocate or negate plans, counter-plans, advantages and disadvantages. Very technical debate. Student Congress Students (20-30) imitate the United States Congress in either House or Senate chambers. Participants choose the side they wish to support but must present and defend their position in front of the group. Uses Parliamentary Procedurejust like the actual U.S. Congress. Debate Events Public Forum Team event (2v2) with short speeches where the clash of ideas must be communicated in clear, persuasive ways to a “lay” or inexperienced judge. Debate topics–known as “resolutions”–change monthly and are usually about current events. Speech Events Extemporaneous Speaking A speech "on the spot“ – 30 minutes to prepare topic ranging from U.S. politics to foreign affairs. Includes either Domestic & Foreign or Informative & Persuasive categories. Impromptu Speaking Original Oratory Interpretation Events Humorous Interpretation Dramatic Interpretation Duo Interpretation Duet Acting Recite memorized script from a published work of fiction/non-fiction and "act" out in front of people.
