  1. 6.4.6: Weather Maps, Satellites, & Radar

  2. Using weather instruments to measure and collect data on a regular basis, allows for the development of patterns in weather conditions from the analyzed data. • Using this data, you should be able to make some basic weather predictions.

  4. Isobars- connect points of equal air pressure • Isotherms- connect points of equal temperature • How to read a weather map

  5. Station model: a symbolic illustration showing the weather occurring at a given weather station. Station models show cloud cover, temperature (F), wind direction & speed, & precipitation. How to read weather symbols.

  6. I need a map here to show station models.

  7. Satellite images should be used for seeing cloud patterns and movements. Radar images can be used to detect rainfall location, intensity, and movement, as well as the potential for severe weather and even tornadoes.

  8. Tracking Hurricanes • Students should be able to use data on hurricane’s position to trace the path of the hurricane and use that track to make predictions concerning the possible warnings to land areas in the hurricane’s path. • Hurricane Tracking Center • Storm Pulse Tracking

  9. Weather Folklore: • If crows fly low, winds going to blow. If crows fly high, winds going to die. • Whether it’s cold or whether it’s hot…We shall have weather, whether or not! • No weather is ill, if the wind is still. • A sunny shower won’t last half an hour. • Clear Moon, Frost Soon. • The moon & the weather may change together but change of the moon does not change the weather.
