  1. The American Civil War1861-1865 Who: American citizens What: A war between members of the same group or country When: 1861-1865 Where: The United States of America Why: Some states disagreed with the American government about the issue of slavery, and they wanted to be their own country.

  2. The Union States Also called: *The North *The Yankees Army led by: Ulysses S. Grant Political views: Did not agree with slavery Soldiers’ Uniform: Blue

  3. Confederate States Also called: *The South *The Rebels Army led by: Robert E. Lee Political views: Wanted to continue slavery Soldiers’ Uniform: Grey

  4. Important People Abraham Lincoln:The President of the United States (The North) during the time of the Civil War. Jefferson Davis:The President of the Confederate States (The South) during the time of the Civil War.

  5. Important People Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson:A Confederate General during the time of the Civil War. John Brown:An abolitionist who led a raid on an Army fort in order to arm slaves.

  7. Slavery The states began to have disagreement about each states’ right to permit slavery. As a result, tension between the North and South began to increase.

  8. Major Battles and Campaigns Fort Sumter: Thought to be the site where the Civil War begins. Gettysburg: The location of a Union victory and the location of Abraham Lincoln’s famous speech.

  9. Major Battles and Campaigns Atlanta Campaign: The Union Army wanted to destroy Atlanta because they its destruction would harm the Confederacy. Sherman’s March to the Sea: The Union swept across Georgia in an effort to win the Civil War.

  10. Major Battles and Campaigns Appomattox Court House: The location where the South surrendered to the North.

  11. Projects Civil War Alphabet Book: You will create an alphabet book with Civil War vocabulary words. Civil War Power Point: You will create a an informational power point about the Civil War.
