  1. Adaptations By Zani Alam

  2. Animal Adaptations All animals live in habitats. Habitats provide food, water, and shelter which animals need to survive, but there is more to survival than just the habitat. Animals also depend on their physical features to help them obtain food, keep safe, build homes, withstand weather, and attract mates. These physical features are called physical adaptations. Physical adaptations do not develop during an animal's life but over many generations.

  3. The shape of a bird's beak, the number of fingers, colour of the fur, the thickness or thinness of the fur, the shape of the nose or ears are all examples of physical adaptations which help different animals to survive.

  4. Examples The shape of a bird's beak

  5. The colour of the fur

  6. The shape of the ears

  7. The thickness or thinness of the fur

  8. Examples of adaptations • 1- Koalas are perfectly designed for their tree-dwelling life. Their hands have a large gap between the first and second fingers and their big toe is set at a wide angle to the foot. This gives the koala a vicelike grip on branches. • 2- The thick fur coat of an arctic fox is an adaptation. It helps protect it against the cold weather. 3- A woodpecker have a strong beak to help it eat insects burrowed in trees.

  9. Adaptations • Task • Answer the following questions: • 1- What are adaptations? • 2- How can adaptations help the animal to survive? • 3- Find adaptations for four different animals. • a-Name the animal • b-Name the adaptation • c- Explain how the adaptation helps the animal to survive.
