What is a Drama? • Meant to be performed-not inaudibly read • Written script is a blueprint that allows actors to understand the playwright’s vision.
Drama Terms • Staging—scenery, costumes, lighting, and sound as well as the actors’ movements and the way they speak • Stage directions—details of the staging usually printed in italics and set in brackets within the drama. Staging tells the proximity of the actors to each other on stage. • Historical context—Includes the time, place customs, political forces, cultural attitudes, and major events of the period.
Story Synopsis For her thirteenth birthday, Anne Frank receives a diary as a gift. She begins writing in her diary in the summer of 1942 during the German occupation of Holland. Anne’s diary describes her slow and difficult adjustment to a life in hiding with seven other people over a two year period.
