  2. Unit summary The students will learn the difference parts of the solar system and they will know how to identified, describe and illustrate the solar system. The students will learn to share ideas and experiences, think critically and creatively, and to come up with the lesson. Students must be aware and must have enough knowledge about the solar system.

  3. Subject area Science The Solar System YEAR LEVEL: Grade 5 APPROXIMATE TIME NEEDED: 60 minutes per day 1 week

  4. Unit Foundation • Targeted Content Standards and Benchmarks : • 1.Identify the members of the solar system. • What is the solar system? • Why is called a system in itself? • What are the members of the solar system? • What is the basis for classifying a planet as an inner or an outer planet? • Which are the inner planets? The outer planets? • Which planets are small? Large? • What the planets has similarities of the Earth?

  5. Objectives At the end of this unit, students are expected to: • Identify the planets in the solar system. • Describe the effects of orbital motion. • Compare properties of the planets. • Distinguish terrestrial and gas planets. • Calculate astronomical distances. • Learn interesting facts about each planet in the solar system.

  6. For the technology based • Use of Internet effectively to collect information about the different types of solar system. • Use of cameras and cell phones for the documentation. • Use of computer for the collaborative project to create a Portfolio PowerPoint Presentation.

  7. CFQs Essential Question: What is the solar system and how does it stay together?

  8. Unit Questions do the other planets in the solar system compare with Earth? Could they support life?

  9. Content Questions What else is there in the solar system besides the sun and planets?

  10. UNIT DETAILS Students must have basic computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Word and general planetary knowledge from textbook.

  12. Instructional Procedures • Week 1 • Day 1 –Introduction to the solar system • Day 2-Video presentation about the PHILIPPINE HISTORY • Day 3 and 4- Brainstorming ,Sharing ideas about the video ,Discussion of Essential and Unit Questions Day 5 - KWL CHART, Interactive Quiz, Peer assessment

  13. Week 2 • Day 1 - Giving the objectives - Introduction of the topic • Day 2 and 3 - Proper discussion about the culture by using PowerPoint presentation • Day 4 - Sharing ideas - Teacher conference -KWL chart • Day 5 - Interactive Quiz

  14. Week 3 • Day 1 – Day 3 - Individual reflection ( type written) - Giving the project rubric and checklist - Self-assessment • Day 4 and 5 - Sharing their project to their classmates by reading it in front - Teacher gives a feedback
