  2. Mythology/ Religion • Mythology is the religion of the ancient Egyptians. • Ancient Egyptians mythology centers itself on nature, the earth, sky, moon, sun, stars, and the Nile River.

  3. Mythology/Religion continued. • The creation of Egyptian myth started in Heliopolis, the City of the Sun

  4. GODS • The ancient Egyptians believed in many different gods and goddesses. Each one with their own role to play in maintaining peace and harmony across the land.

  5. Pyramids • There is over eighty pyramids known today from ancient Egypt and three of the largest and best-preserved were built in Giza. • The ancient Egyptians built pyramids as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens .

  6. Pyramids continued • The other Egyptians were buried properly to allow them to live in the afterlife. • Most ancient Egyptians were buried in the desert.

  7. Pyramids continued. • Those with more wealth would be able to afford a better burial. • The earliest Royal Egyptian burials were pits dug in the ground with mounds built over them.

  8. Things buried with mummies • They were buried with their pets. • Their riches. • Food. • Worldly possessions.

  9. Ancient Egyptians Daily Living • The Egyptians highly valued family life. • They treasured children and regarded them as blessings. • The lower class families the mother raised them, but the higher class Egyptians had servants raise them. Egyptian children

  10. Daily living continued • If a couple had no children, they would pray to the gods and goddesses for some help. • The women were equal to men, They could participate in business, own land and had to represent themselves in court cases.

  11. Daily living continued.. • Young boys learned to trade or craft from their fathers, while young girls were trained at home by their mothers.

  12. Marriage • Girls usually married around the age 12, and the boys were a few years older than the girls. • Girls of more affluent families married a few years older. • They all had arranged marriages. • The kings had several wives.

  13. Food and cooking • They cooked in clay ovens or open fires. • Food was baked, boiled, stewed, fried, grilled, or roasted. • They used storage jars, bowls, pots, pans, ladles, sieves, and whisks. • Beer was the most popular beverage.

  14. Cosmetics • Cleansing rituals were very important to Egyptians, They bathed daily in the river or water basin at home. • They rubbed themselves daily with perfumed oil.

  15. Cosmetics continued • Red ochre clay was ground and mixed with water, and applied to the lips and cheeks. • They used henna to dye their fingernails orange and yellow.

  16. Hair • The hairstyles were very similar to today's hairstyles. • Young girls had pigtails, while boys shaved their heads except for one braded lock worn to one side.

  17. Hair continued.. • Both men and women wore wigs. Wigs made of sheeps wool, or human hair for decoration.

  18. Clothing • Egyptians clothing style didn’t change much throughout the ancient times. • Clothes were made from linens raging from coarse to fine texture.

  19. Clothing continued.. • Durring the Old and middle kingdomes Men usually wore a kilt, Wealthy men wore a pleated kilts. • Women wore a straight fitting dress held up by straps.

  20. Housing and Furniture • Homes made from bricks of sun dried mud • A nobleman's home was divided into three areas, A reception area, a hall and the private quarters.

  21. Entertainment • Their entertainment is the Nile River. • Activities include… -Fishing -River Boat outings -Swimming -Hunting crocodiles and Hippo’s.

  22. Entertainment Continued.. • Also on the Nile river they play Boat games. where two teams of men in boats with long poles, would try to push each other into the water. • Hunting in the desert was also another choice.

  23. Entertainment Continued • Wealthy Egyptians held parties, with plenty of food, beer and wine. • Festivals were held during the holidays.

  24. Government • They had a theocratic dictatorship. • The Eqyptions believed that god have the pharro permission to rule
