  2. Human Population Growth • Human population has been growing almost exponentially for almost three centuries • No other population of large organisms has shown such growth for so long

  3. Human Population Growth • But no population can grow indefinitely • Human population must eventually either level off or decline

  4. Human Population Growth • This reduction in population growth will occur because of decreased birth rates or massive mortality

  5. Human Population Growth • Demographic Transition: Refers to the transition from high birth and death rates to low birth and death rates.
