  1. The classes of organic molecules Carbohydrates Lipids Proteins Nucleic Acids

  2. Team work! • Using the deck of organic molecule cards I gave each group complete the following tasks. • Find 4 examples of each of the following organic monomers: • Monosaccharide • Amino Acid • Nucleotide • Saturated Fatty Acid • Unsaturated Fatty Acid • Glycerol • Organize the 4 monomers into the appropriate polymer (polysaccharide, polypeptide, polynucleotide (RNA), a saturated fat, and unsaturated fat, a phospholipid (you will need a phosphate group make this last one!). Be prepared to share your polymers with the class, and describe one function of that organic

  3. Condensation Rummy… To “go out” you must make a polymer from 4 monomers in the deck and water… Organic polymer Subunits needed Polypeptide 4 amino acids + water Polynucleotide 4 nucleotides + water Polysaccharide 4 monosaccharides + water phospholipid Glycerol + 2 fatty acids + phosphate group + water Unsaturated fat Glycerol + 3 fatty acids (one must be unsaturated + water Saturated fat Glycerol + 3 fatty acids (all must be saturated + water

  4. Condensation Rummy RAT When one person on your team gets Rummy, together as a team, determine the - class of organic molecules your polymer is in. - the name of the polymer you made. - the names of each monomer in the polymer - two important functions of that class of organic molecules Write this information on a sheet of paper, along with your team name, and the name of the person who got Rummy. This person gets two bonus points (if it really is a Rummy hand!). Clip your Rummy hand to the page. Your team grade on this RAT will be based on the accuracy of the information your team provides!
