  1. Physical Regions of Canada The Cordillera

  2. Location The Cordillera is located on the west coast of Canada and includes British Columbia, the Yukon, southwest Alberta and part of Northwest Territories.

  3. Landscape The landscape of the Cordillera has long chains of high rugged mountains. This includes the Rocky Mountains and the Coastal Mountains. Parts of this region are covered with forests. It also has high plateaus, meadows, fjords, valleys, and glacial ice fields

  4. Climate The climate of the Cordillera’s coast is mild, wet and rarely has snow that stays. The interior of the Cordillera is usually colder and dryer with larger amounts of snow.

  5. Resources The natural resources of the Cordillera are forestry, agriculture, mining of iron, lead, zinc, silver, copper, and nickel, and fisheries - the west coast is famous for salmon. The two main forests are the Western coastal forest and the boreal forest.

  6. Industries The main industries are forestry, sport fishing, hydroelectricity, and orchards and vineyards.

  7. Population Most of the people in the Cordillera live in extreme south lowlands [Vancouver] and southern plateau due to the warmer climate.

  8. Interesting Facts The oldest coniferous trees in Canada are found in this region. Mt. Logan is highest point (in Canada). The only temperate rain forests in Canada are found along the Pacific coast.
