  4. Each Assignment • Complete research • Read everything • On top of page is your name and the assignment number • Next comes the exact wording of the assignment • The comes your • First draft • Second draft • Final draft

  5. FIRST DRAFT • After you have read all the law and understand the question, time to write your first draft • Read the question • Write the answer it off the top of your head (based on the law you have read) • This answer will be based on law, but will not contain law

  6. SECOND DRAFT • Have someone read it • Ask them if they understand it • Correct your draft based on their comments

  7. FINAL DRAFT • Read through it and determine which sentences are legal statements • For every legal statement, add law citation where it comes from • Make sure you use primary unless secondary is allowed • INSERT CORRECT CITES

  9. CITING STATUTES • Go to Tanbook (NY STYLE MANUAL) • Go to Appendix 4 and use the names there • Make sure there are spaces between the name of the statute, the section sign (if there is one), the section number, and the subdivisions in () • Penal Law § 120.00 (1) • CPLR 3211 (2) (a)
