Goal Report

Over September, I worked with my mentor to learn safety measures and project planning for woodworking. We decided on creating a unique pair of multi-wood bookends made of redwood and maple, focusing on precision and patience, as these bookends are intricately designed without screws or supports. Our meetings were flexible, allowing us to collaborate effectively without rushing the learning process. This experience taught me the importance of planning and communication in a creative project.

  1. Goal Report By Mitchell Guyot

  2. What I learned • Over the month of September, my mentor and l went over rules and safety measures in order to start working. First, we went over what could happen if I made a mistake, and how to avoid doing this, then we went over what we could do as a project together. We both had many ideas, but we agreed on making a multi-wood bookends. A type or redwood and maple fix, freestanding book shelf, that test my math and patience abilities.

  3. A Bookends • A bookends is a very delicate type of bookshelf that uses no screws or supportive devices. The pieces of a bookends fit together so tightly its like glue. The bookends usually take about 5 months to complete, but it takes some time to learn how to make one too.

  4. Planning • Over the coarse of our meeting, my mentor and I agreed to meet between 2-4 times a month, depending on how fast I learn, and how much work we actually get done. We agreed to make no set times, but instead we could find times that could work for both of us, at the same time. This way, we wouldn’t be rushed, or have to worry about when we have to move on to further the project.
