  2. Welcome • Welcome to the General meeting of the EFRTC in Zurich • Thanks to Martin Benkler from Sersa Group and all his team, who organized all the events of this meeting, for us and our spouses

The Swiss Railroad – High density • 5000 km railroad, of which 3680 km of normal gauge • 99% electrified • 8000 bridges, 760 tunnels, tight curves • One station every 3 km • Interval timetable increasingly on half-hourly basis 93.8 trains/day on each track • 437 Mio passengers, 62 Mio tons cargo/year • Zurich main station: over 2900 train departures per day

The Swiss Association • Founded in 2001, 23 members today, 3000 employees, • Private companies specialising in • Track construction and maintenance • Welding • Overhead contact lines • Signalling • Traction power • Manual operations • Objectives • Represent members to authorities, railway companies, scientific institutions, etc. • Promote as qualified private companies • Support members in fair competition
