ETCF at a glance • Project implemented by EUROCHAMBRES in cooperation with TOBB (joint project management team) • Project launched: December 2007, 24 months • Objective: To strengthen dialogue and cooperation between Turkish and EU Chambers, as members of civil society, thus promoting the integration of EU and Turkish business communities • Institution Building (EUROCHAMBRES Academies, Accreditation, 22 partnerships) • Acquis Communautaire

  3. EU Acquis activities • The survey • The EU Training Programme for Turkish Chamber executives • The database of Turkish experts on EU Affairs • 6 manuals onrelevant EU legislation

The survey on « Corporate preparation in Turkey for EU membership » (1) • Survey conducted between July and September 2008: 9000 companies. • Extensive questionnaire (21 questions) • Turkish regional Chambers involved in dissemination and collection of the questionnaires. • 2.878 Turkish companiesfrom all regions and sectors. High response rate – strong interest for issues covered by the survey

A detailed insight into the level of awareness and readiness of Turkish companies to apply EU legislation, and to gauge businesses’ opinion about future EU enlargement, and in particular their expectations, fears and hopes The survey on « Corporate preparation in Turkey for EU membership » (2)

Survey key findings, at the basis of the design of the training seminars and the manuals • How to fill the information gap? • Information sources: • Chambers of Commerce • Turkish government • Universities & Institutes • Tools: • Seminars, workshops, conferences • Printed information on EU legislation • All the areas of the EU business-related legislation are equally important for Turkish companies

  7. Survey key findings, which guided the debate on Turkey’s accession to the EU

The EU Training Programme (1) • A comprehensive programme designed and implemented by EUROCHAMBRES and TOBB in association with Ankara University European Union Research Center (ATAUM) and Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul. • A challenging and rewarding experience which provided 50 Turkish Chamber executives from 39 Chambers from all over Turkey with the latest, most insightful and advanced knowledge on EU affairs.

  9. The EU Training Programme (2) • 6 intensive and compulsory seminars organised on a monthly basis over a period of two to three consecutive days from April to October 2009

  10. The EU Training Programme (3) • The programme was organised in two locations: ATAUM in Ankara (cycle A) and Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul (cycle B). • 25 scholars attended each cycle. • Experienced course leaders

  11. The Study visit in Brussels • 12-14 October 2009 in Brussels • visit to the European Institutions (European Commission, European Parliament, and Council) • Antwerp CCI • Meeting with Turkish diplomats dealing with the accession negotiations and Turkish lobbyists in Brussels • participation in the event “Chambers meet MEPs” organised by EUROCHAMBRES at the European Parliament.
