  7. Long Range Planning • Choose one curriculum area with which to begin your planning (usually Social Studies or Science). Decide on the topics/themes you will cover and estimate the length of time you will need to complete the topic/theme. • Decide when you will address each of the topics/themes.

  8. Long Range Planning • Consider the availability of resources and materials and possible human resources. • Look for links among various curriculum areas (integration). • Consider how school or district-wide planning will have an impact on your classroom long term plans. • Ensure that you have considered all curriculum area.

  9. Long Range Planning What if you are planning long range plans for a combined grade classroom? • Begin with grouping expectations in each of the two curriculum. Grade 2Grade 3 ………… ……….. ………… ………..

  10. Long Range Planning • Develop the big ideas/enduring understandings from the clustered expectations from each grade and look for those that match. • Plan to offer integrated units based on the common ideas/enduring understandings.

  11. Long Range Planning • Decide when these units will be delivered. • Consider those topics that cannot be integrated and decide when they will be delivered separately to each grade level.
