ANZAC Day. When Was World War 1?. World War 1 started in October 1914 with England fighting Turkey, but the Australian and New Zealand troops or ANZACS came to help out on April 25th 1915. The ANZACS landed on the Gallipoli peninsula at dawn at around about 4:30 am on April the 25th 1915.
