  5. Structures TC Liaison ReportBruce Willis • The Fall 2014 StrTC meeting will be held this coming Friday, 9-11-14, at UCSD in San Diego, CA, in conjunction with ASC Composites 2014. • From their Spring meeting at SciTech back in January: • Rob Taylor is their new TC Vice-Chair, as Steve Russell steps up to Chair (Jeanette Domber rotating out). • Pete Gustafson will be their 2016 SciTech representative. • A presentation by Dr. Tom Lacy highlighted Mississippi State University’s efforts to promote AIAA. They pay for the student memberships (222 out of 235 Aero undergrads accepted offer), have funds available for undergrad research and travel initiatives, and are looking to engage TCs in classroom and student chapter activities. • Their 1st design competition went well. It was centered on high altitude unmanned platforms. Looking at ideas for the next one.

  6. Aeroelastic prediction workshop, Kickoff meeting is planned for SciTech 2015.Bruce Willis, Jennifer Heeg Currently, we have a paper in the regular conference, but we would be interested in having a room for a few hours to have open discussions.  Is this possible?  Would there be a charge that we would have to cover? We received the official acceptance notice from Ann  Ames regarding the workshop kickoff paper: Plans and example results for the 2nd AIAA Aeroelastic Prediction Workshop, Heeg, Chwalowski, Raveh, Dalenbring, and Jirasek We will be doing flutter analysis of attached and separated flows for AePW-2.  Configuration is the benchmark supercritical wing (This is the configuration from AePW-1 which was not well-predicted.) Grids, structural models and analysis of experimental data have been completed and are ready for distribution to participants Currently, we are only distributing the grids and models by request.  At the kickoff meeting, they will be made available worldwide via the website. Analyses of the planned configuration are being performed at 3 organizations (NASA, FOI and Technion), utilizing codes with different levels of fidelity (URANS and hybrid methods) to shake the bugs out of the information prior to making it available to participants. Technical tidbit:  Flutter is incredibly sensitive to time convergence critieria in a Navier Stokes solution. Please also let the TC members know that we will send them early grids and structural models if they or their colleagues would like to get an early start.  Volunteers for the organizing committee get first replies, of course.  Email: Jennifer.heeg@nasa.gov
