  5. Demographics • In 1492, Latin America had about 100 million people • 350 different tribes • 115 different languages

  6. Demographics • After the end of slavery, many colonies brought Asian laborers to work the plantations. • The eroding of social barriers led to a social rainbow in some countries.

  8. Migration • Many Latin American people are migrating to cities and other countries looking for jobs.

  9. Population • Most people live in cities on the coast • Cities developed on the coast to avoid harsh conditions and poor soil inland

  10. Languages The Europeans brought their languages as did later migrants Many still speak native languages

  11. Religions • Europeans and others also brought their religions with them when they came to Latin America
