  3. Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) What is it? A: a curriculum B: ways of teaching that are age appropriate C: a program D: a Mission Statement

  4. DAP – What do you think? Would it be "appropriate to ask a group of 2-year-olds in a High/Scope classroom to spend a long time reflecting on what they learned from playing in the sand? Or Would it be appropriate to let the children choose between sand and block play and to talk with them about what they are doing?

  11. Jean Piaget (1896 – 1980)

  12. Jean Piaget Sensorimotor (Birth to 18 months /2 years) Piaget’s first stage of cognitive development, which involves the use of senses and motor skill to construct knowledge. Piaget’s stage of Cognitive Development Preoperational (2 to 7 years) Piaget’s second stage of cognitive development, which involves predominantly language development with more capability to internalize symbolic representation and less dependence on sensorimotor skill. Concrete Operations (7 to 12 years) Piaget’s third stage of cognitive development, which involves the operation that can be executed physically or mentally, and the entire process can be reversed. Formal Operations(12 to 15 years) Piaget’s final stage of cognitive development, which involves less concrete learning and more abstract learning in complex and hypothetical situation.
