  2. STAY ED • FOCUS ! Prioritizing the things that really matter

  3. Priority Statements Joshua 24:15 Matthew 6:24 Matthew 6:33 John 6:27 Colossians 3:2

  4. Focus • (noun) directed and concentrated attention or effort (Webster’s Dictionary) • All “the things on earth” (whether good, bad, or neutral) are subordinate to “the things above”

  5. A focused Christian • Makes a deliberate decision to serve God (Joshua 24:14-15) • Makes time to pray (Mark 1:35) • Listens to God’s word even when other things need doing (Luke 10:38-42)

  6. A focused Christian • Does not compromise his convictions (Daniel 1:8) • Does not let Satan have a foot in the door (Matthew 16:23) • Presses through difficulties (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

  7. A focused Christian • A focused Christian lets nothing distract him from “the things above” • “…Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:42)

  8. A focused Christian • Am I focused when engaged in other responsibilities (work, school, family, etc.)… • Do I use these opportunities to serve the Lord? • Do I still have time and energy left for the Lord? • Even when engaged in “non-religious” activities our hearts must be set on the things above

  9. A focused Christian • Has focused purpose(“I will serve God”) • Has focused motivation(“Nothing will stop me from serving God”) • Has focused action(“I will do everything I can to serve God”)

  10. Focus is necessary • No matter how we prioritize, God will always be the most important thing • Luke 9:24-25 • Luke 12:16-21

  11. Focus is necessary • Without focus we will not bear fruit and mature • Distractions can choke out zeal (Luke 8:14) • A mind set on earthly things is anxious and worried (Matthew 6:31-33)

  12. Focus is necessary • We must be ready for Jesus’ return • Be alert and sober (1 Thessalonians 5:4-6) • Distractions can numb us to the reality of Jesus’ return (Luke 21:34-36)

  13. Stay focused! • Develop godly habits to help you grow • Assemble and worship regularly • Be involved with your brethren • Cut out distractions • Repent and Refocus

  14. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. - Colossians 3:2
