The Allied Victory • In groups of 3-4 use book/notes to explain how each of the following events or battles contributed to the Allie’s victory in WWII • Battle of El Alamein • Operation Torch • Battle of Stalingrad • Invasion of Italy • Propaganda campaigns on home fronts • D-Day invasion • Battle of the Bulge • Battle of Leyte Gulf • Battle of Okinawa • Bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki

The Allied Victory • Battle of El Alamein Forced Rommel & his forces to retreat westward from Egypt • Operation Torch Landed American Troops in North Africa; finally crushed Rommel’s Afrika Korps • Battle of Stalingrad put GER forces on the defensive with the Soviets, pushing them westward • Invasion of Italy resulted in Allied conquest of Sicily and forced eventual surrender of Italy • Propaganda campaigns on home fronts Rallied people on the home front to do their part to support the war effort • D-Day invasion opened a second front in Euro, led to the liberation of Nazi occupied countries • Battle of the Bulge German offensive forced Allies to retreat; Allied resistance stopped GER and resulted in heavy losses for Hitler • Battle of Leyte Gulf wiped out JAP navy • Battle of Okinawa resulted in heavy losses for JAP and moved Allies closer to an invasion of JAP homeland • Bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki forced surrender of JAP and the end of war
