  2. Symbols of • The state bird is: Nene • The state flower is: Yellow Hibiscus • The state tree is: Candlenut Tree

  3. State Flag • Hawaii was once an independent kingdom. (1810 - 1893) The flag was designed at the request of King Kamehameha I. It has eight stripes of white, red and blue that represent the eight main islands. The flag of Great Britain is emblazoned in the upper left corner to honor Hawaii's friendship with the British.

  4. State Nickname • Alohastate or Paradise of the Pacific. • The reason for these nicknames is because Hawaii, is said to be one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Aloha is used as a greeting to say hello or goodbye.

  5. Statehood This state became the 50thstate in the United States on August 21, 1959 . The first Governor of Hawaii was Sanford B. Dole.

  6. Places to Visit An interesting place I feel people should visit is Honolulu because it is the capital of Hawaii and it has the most population. Honolulu means “sheltered bay.” It is located along the southeast coast of the island of Oahu. Honolulu is breathtaking. It is definitely a site to see.
