  4. MUSCLE TISSUE • Voluntary or Involuntary (conscious control) or (happens unconsciously) • Striated or Non-striated (stripes) or (no stripes) • Uni-nucleate or Multi-nucleate (one nucleus) or (many nuclei per each cell)

  6. MUSCLE TISSUE Skeletal Muscle Description: • Attached to skeleton, pull on bones or skin • Voluntary, striated, multi-nucleate Function: • Body movement and facial expression Location: • Attached to bones

  8. MUSCLE TISSUE Cardiac Muscle Description: • Makes up the heart • Involuntary, striated, uni-nucleate Function: • Pumps blood through blood vessels Location: • Heart only!

  10. MUSCLE TISSUE Smooth Muscle Description: • Spindle-shaped cells, contract more slowly • Involuntary, non-striated, uni-nucleate Function: • Pushes substances through organs (by constriction/dilation) Location: • Walls of hollow organs (stomach, intestines, bladder, uterus, blood vessels)

  13. NERVOUS TISSUE Description: • Nerve cells (neurons) receive and conduct electrochemical impulses • Long extensions/processes • Neuroglia = supporting cells Function: • Irritability (sense info) • Conductivity (transmit info) Location: • Brain, spinal cord, nerves
