Limited email updates. • International phone card for your student • Please leave your laptop and cell phone at home!! Beware roaming charge! We will not pay for internet access in hotels.

  15. Currency • $30-$50 per day (meals, drinks, refreshments) • Personal items / gifts are extra • Currency • - Euro • Traveler’s checks • Not recommended. Most businesses, restaurants do not take them • Credit or ATM card • Usually favorable exchange rates • May be replenished by family • May charge extra 3% fee (fairly recent – check with your issuer) • Make sure you are authorized for international use • Make sure you have an international pin (4 digits) • For under-age travelers, visit www.visabuxx.com or ACIS has a prepaid visa card which offers cards for younger members who wouldn’t normally possess a card.

  16. Electricity • U.S. uses 110 volts; Europe uses 220 volts. • Most ipods, laptops, shavers and curling irons operate on both voltages and you only need plug adapters. • Hair dryers and hair straightening irons need to be dual voltage or use a transformer. • Please check your appliances! • You will need different plug adapters for Italy and Austria/Germany. You can purchase these at luggage stores and radio shack.

  17. Luggage Rules and Regulations • Checked: • 1 suitcase not to exceed 50lbs in weight and a maximum of 62 linear inches (length + width + height). • For any bag above 50lbs a minimum charge of 30 Euro will be made by Lufthansa at check-in with an average charge of 30E/kg overweight PER LEG of the journey. • If your luggage is over 50lbs at check in we will remove items and send them back to the SJYS office. • Carry-on: • 1 bag not to exceed 17lbs in weight and a maximum of 43 linear inches (length + width + height) • 1 personal item such as camera or handbag. • The group must be restricted to one suitcase per person due to bus cargo space and we use the second piece as the instrument with the airlines.

  18. Instrument Rules and Regulations • Carry-on: • Violin, Violas, Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets • Checked: • Trombone, Horns, Cello, Tuba, Bass • Saxophones, Trumpets and bassoons are “tricky” and have been placed in both. We will try to carry-on though they are slightly oversize.

  19. Packing/Clothing • Packing list available • Check out ACIS website for pertinent information: www.acis.com/studentsparents/essentials • Remember….. You and only you will be carrying your luggage. If you can’t lift it you have packed too much! • Your attire is an important way of showing respect for your host culture. Particularly in Italy, you will not be allowed into cathedrals wearing shorts or skirts above the knee, sleeveless blouses or T-shirts, no matter how hot it is. Keep your attire neat. Europeans interpret a neat appearance as a sign of respect.

  22. Behavior Guidelines • Parents: Please go over the behavior agreement/discipline agreement that you signed with your student. You are representing SJYS, San Jose and the U.S. • Be especially careful with your room and your bus. You will be held personally responsible for any damage you cause, and you will not be allowed to leave the hotel until the damage is paid for • Again, check out the ACIS website for specific behavior guidelines while on tour
