  3. Establishing Who God Is: • God, the Spirit … John 14-16: 3 things 1) Counselor 2) Convictor 3) Guide

  4. God, the Spirit as Counselor John 14 15"If you love me, you will obey what I command.16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—

  5. God, the Spirit as Counselor John 15:26-27 26"When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.27And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

  6. God, the Spirit as Counselor John 16 5"Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'6Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief.7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

  7. Paraclete Jesus led to the desert Luke 4:1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, Simeon promised and led to the temple Luke 2:26-2726It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ.27Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. Philip led to reach out to the Ethiopian Acts 8:29The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it." Church leaders in Jerusalem Acts 13:2While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

  8. Paraclete Paul kept from preaching in Asia Acts 16:6-76Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.7When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. Paul compelled to go to Jerusalem Acts 20:22-2322"And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there.23I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. John seeing visions in Revelation Revelation 1:10On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet,

  9. Paraclete 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 10but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.       The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

  10. Paraclete 1 Corinthians 2:13-15 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment:

  11. Reminds us of Truth Psalm 119:24Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors. 2 Corinthians 1:22set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 1 John 3:24Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

  12. Warns us of Sin Galatians 5:17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

  13. Challenges us to Grow Acts 9:31Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.

  14. How Does He Speak? • Psalm 115:3 Our God is in heaven; • he does whatever pleases him.

  15. How Do We Listen? Romans 8:9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

  16. 1) Lesson Distractions

  17. 2) Right Exposures God’s Truth (Scripture)

  18. 2) Right Exposures God’s Truth (Scripture) God’s People (the Church) • 2 Corinthians 13:14May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

  19. 2) Right Exposures God’s Truth (Scripture) God’s People (the Church) God’s Language (Prayer) Romans 8:26-27 26We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
