  2. What is The Oceania Project? Not-for-profit research and information organisation dedicated to the Conservation and Protection of Whales, Dolphins and the Oceans.The Oceania Project's research work involved photographing and filming the Humpback Whales and Dolphins and recording their songs and sounds. These experiences of images and sounds are shared with everyone around the world (The Oceania Project,2011). Founded by Trish and Wally Franklin Image 2: Trish & Wally Franklin (n.d.).

  3. The Oceania Project Time Line 1988 The Oceania Project is established. Trish and Wally - First Fleet Office. - First Whale Research Expedition to Hervey Bay. - (1989 - 1994) Expedition vessel's Anna Kristina & Svanen.- Helped finance the establishment of the first Internet ISP in the Byron Bay area. 1989 - Began using a Macintosh based Digital Scanning and CD Archiving system to manage the Hervey Bay research photography and video.- Conducted three successful Expeditions to Hervey Bay and implemented a long term Photo-ID research study of the Hervey Bay Humpback Whales. 1992 The Oceania Project's website is born providing global information dedicated to the Conservation and Care of Whales and Dolphins. 1996 The Oceania Project is partnered with Professor Peter Baverstock's Centre for Animal Conservation Genetics on the genetic study of humpbacks. 2000 The Oceania Project became an affiliate of the South Pacific Whale Research Consortium. 2003 Trish and Wally participated in the formation of The Australian Humpback Whale Research Group. 2004 2011 Trish and Wally Franklin were awarded a prestigious IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) Lifetime Dedication Award.

  4. Digital Evolution Trish Franklin uses a Canon SLR digital camera technology for the Hervey Bay Photo-ID work. The Oceania Project were amongst the first adopters of desktop digital colour technology in Australia in collaboration with Graphic Designer and Production Artist Stephen Franklin (The Oceania Project,2011).TOP helped finance the establishment of the first Internet ISP in the Byron Bay area.In 1992, TOP began using a Macintosh based Digital Scanning and CD Archiving system to manage the Hervey Bay research photography and video.

  6. There have been strong support in recent years against whaling from around the world. Although the International Whaling Commission has implemented tough laws against whaling, countries like Norway, Iceland and particularly Japan continue despite theses laws. In the 2006/2007 season, Japan killed 866 different breeds of whales. Abigail Geer reveals (in an article for One Green Planet) the “5 facts about whaling that will shock you” and how the fight against whaling is not an easy one. 16,000 whales have been murdered every year for 83 consecutive years and over 25,000 whales have been murdered legally for “scientific research” since 1986 (Geer, A., 2014). These are just some of the facts presented. The main reason behind whaling revolves around money. I have not had the privilege of seeing whales up close but I would like to one day. I support the fight (along with The Oceania Project and many other charities) against whaling.

In the clip, Karina seems to be teaching Paolo how to maneuver safely around marine vessels.
