What is the Rogerian Argument? • The Rogerian argument encourages empathy. • It is still a form of debate, but tries to avoid the win/lose outcome. • When two sides can reach common ground, they are more likely to solve the issue. • Opponents may have to agree to disagree on some parts of the issue.

  3. Begin by presenting a SINCERE point of view from the opposing side. • Then present the writer’s point of view, using key evidence and diplomatic methods of persuasion. • Finally, explain how the opposing view can benefit from understanding the writer’s view, as well as how both sides can benefit from each view.
