Present Perfect (pg-14) • Used to talk about finished actions or events • To give news in reports, letters, and conversations • Used to talk about past events • Used to talk about actions that started in the past and have continued up to this moment • Used to talk about actions that started in the past and have just finished

  5. Present Perfect Practice (pg-14) • Is often used with ever, never, yet, already, just, so far, since, and for • Example: • two trains have crashed this morning • I have bought a new pair of slippers • Sam has been to Paris twice • We have met the President and talked to him

  6. Exercises (pg-15) • Yet and already are often used with present perfect tense • Compete 1&2 exercise 1 • Compete 2&3 exercise 2

Simple Present Tense (pg-21) • Used to talk about things which happen repeatedly, every day, all the time, or any time • Used in commentaries on sports games • Used to talking about what someone is doing and in step by stem instructions • Used to express a fact • Adverbs of frequency are usually used with the simple present tense ( before the main verb o after a form of verb be) • Always, usually, regularly, normally, often, sometimes, occasionally, rarely, and never • EX: he usually comes late or he is never late

Examples (pg-21) • The teachers have a meeting once a week • Tom rides his bicycle to school • The moon is nearer to the earth than the sun Negative form • The teachers DO NOT have a meeting once a week • Tom DOES NOT ride his bicycle to school • The sun IS NOT nearer to the earth than the moon

  10. The adverbs (pg-22) • Often, usually, sometimes and occasionally can go at the beginning of the sentence • Ex: sometimes I go swimming. or Often we surf the internet. Sometimes these adverbs are placed at the end of the sentence ex: we read books occasionally. (note: the adverbs hardly, scarcely never, rarely, and seldom are not used with negative verbs.EX: he has never eaten chocolate. NOT, he has not ever…)

  13. Present continuous • Used to talk about actions and situations that are already going on at the moment of speaking (EX: Ben is playing chess.) • Used to talk about future happenings (Ex: I’m leaving soon.) • Used to talk about changing situations (Ex: It’s getting better everyday.) • Always, constantly, and forever are used to talk about things that often happen unexpectedly or annoyingly ( Ex: She is always making noises.) • Verbs such as, like, believe contain, remember, know, weigh, etc. are not normally used in the continuous tense (Ex: He likes his work. The teacher knows the answers)
