  3. Simon Bolivar Venezuelan Creole Led a volunteer army in gaining independence for Venezuela Worked with Jose de San Martin to declare independence for all of Spain’s Latin American colonies

  4. Jose de San Martin Creole from Argentina, which declared independence in 1861 Led the fight for freedom in Chile Worked with Simon Bolivar to free all of Spain’s Latin American colonies

  6. Miguel Hidalgo • Country: Mexico • Poor but educated priest: inspired by Enlightenment ideas • Called for a rebellion against the Spanish by ringing the church bell in his town of Dolores (The Cry of Dolores) • Inspired large army of Indians and Mestizos • Defeated by Spanish and Creole Army

  7. Jose Maria Morales Country: Mexico Replaced Hidalgo as Revolutionary leader Led the revolution for 4 years until he was defeated Independence was eventually declared by the Creole who defeated Morales
