  1. The Red Pony By John Steinbeck Power Point By Diana

  2. John Steinbeck John Steinbeck was born on Feb. 27th 1902 in Salinas, California and died at the age of 66 on Dec. 20th 1968. During his life wrote 16 novels, 6 non-fiction books, and 5 collections of short stories. Some of the names of the novels he wrote were: Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden, and Of Mice and Men. In 1962 he received the Nobel Prize of Literature.

  3. Map of Salinas, California

  4. History of Salinas Theexplorers came to Salinas, California and built a presido in Monterey and missions in Camel, Soledad, San Juan Bauitista, and the San Antonio Valley. Salinas is Spanish for “Salt Marsh” because during that time there was a large slough that ran through the area. The "green gold" of lettuce, broccoli and artichokes helped to make Salinas one of the wealthiest cities per capital in the U.S. after World War I.

  5. Ranching Ranch- an area of landscape that includes different types of structures given to the practice of raising livestock like cattle and sheep. They did this in order to get wool and meat. It is also a method used for raising less common livestock like: Elk, American bison and even ostriches and emus.

  6. The 1930’s The 1930’s was known as The Great Depression. The Great Depression was severe economic Depression that happened all around the world during the decade before World War 2. A lot of people were homeless during the 1930’s.

  7. The Care of Horses When caring for a horse, you must takecare of its housing, health, supplies and more. Many horse experts believe that at least 2 hours a day of exercise is good for your horse. The kind of exercise you give your horse depends on what work your horse will do.

  8. Supplies Supplies you’ll need when taking care of a horse: • Water and feed troughs + feed pans and water bucket • A shelter • Brushes, combs, and hoof picks • Fly spray • Medication and bandages for cuts and sores

  9. Recommendation This book in my opinion, is a great book for people who like to learn about horses, life on the ranch, and The Great Depression. If you ever read a John Steinbeck book, you’ll know he is very descriptive when he writes. This is a great tip to those who would love to become an author when they grow up: “Be descriptive and detailed.” This is a great book.
