2009 Cert Status • Sent certification packets on Jan. 6 to: • 131 known and 37 possible newsprint consumers • 7 known manufacturers • 8 interested parties (e.g., industry associations) • Sent courtesy reminders to consumers and manufacturers Feb. 16 and 17 • Annual report scheduled to be completed by mid-summer
2008 Cert Results • Six manufacturers reported producing and supplying RCN for use in CA • 127 newsprint consumers (printers & publishers) reported using newsprint • 76% of these consumers met the 50% RCN usage requirement • 24% Claimed exemptions • Overall newsprint supply and usage were down as anticipated due to industry changes.
Data Analysis & Audits • Certs are always reviewed for accuracy and completeness before data is compiled • In 2009, a desk review was conducted on the 2008 Certs to verify the data from a sample of consumer certs • Received voluntary back-up docs from 19 consumers • Requested back-up from another 26 consumers
