  2. Expository Writing PROMPT: In science, we are learning about different types of plants and how important they are to the world around us. If you could magically be turned into any plant, what plant would you be. Remember, you can choose any kind of plant, tree, flower, fruit, or vegetable. Give reasons to explain your answer. At least one of your reasons must be based on scientific fact.

  3. Expository Writing • Think about what the prompt is asking you…What plant would you want to become? •Your plant is the topic of your writing. •The topic of your writing is your rectangle

  5. Expository Writing • The next step in completing your outline is to complete your triangles. • Your triangles are the 3 different reasons you choose that plant. • Be sure to always begin triangle paragraphs with transition words such as first, second, third, next, another, final, last

Expository Writing: Introduction 1st Sentence: Hook If you could be magically turned into any plant, which one would you become? 2nd Sentence: Statement or answer to the Hook using your topic (rectangle) Without a doubt, I would want to be turned into a vibrantly red rose. 3rd Sentence: Sentence about your topic (include your 3 triangles : reasons) A rose is the plant I would want to become because it makes its own food, is associated with love, and is available in many different colors. 4th Sentence:MOPSI sentence about the topic (rectangle) A blossoming rose is as uplifting as the first ray of sunshine after a stormy day. 5th Sentence: Effect--- “After you read my explanation, …” After you read my explanation, you will think the rose is the plant ever!

Without a doubt, I would want to be turned into a vibrantly red rose. A rose is the plant I would want to become because it makes its own food, is associated with love, and is available in many different colors. A blossoming rose is as uplifting as the first ray of sunshine after a stormy day. After you read my explanation, you will think the rose is the plant ever!

Expository Writing: 1st Triangle 1st Sentence: Should be your reason, and should start with “One reason” or “The first reason” One reason I would want to be a rose is because it can make its own food. 2nd Sentence: Circle-example For example, it uses photosynthesis to turn water, carbon dioxide, and sunlight into a sugary food to satisfy its appetite. 3rd Sentence: Circle-MOPSI example Being a rose would be so convenient because it is a cafeteria that never closes. 4th Sentence: Circle- “What difference does it make?” By making its own food, the rose never has to rely on anyone else to keep it alive.

Expository Writing: Conclusion 1st Sentence: Write a statement about the topic Thinking of myself as a rose brings a smile to my face! 2nd Sentence: List the 3 triangles (reasons) I would want to be a rose because it can make its own food, is associated with love, and comes in a variety of colors and sizes. 3rd Sentence: Effect Now that you have read my explanation, I am sure that you would agree that this flower is extravagant with a capital “E”. 4th Sentence: Another statement about the topic to bring it to a close Beware of my thorns, beauty must be protected at all times!

I would want to be a rose because it can make its own food, is associated with love, and comes in a variety of colors and sizes. Now that you have read my explanation, I am sure that you would agree that this flower is extravagant with a capital “E”. Beware of my thorns, beauty must be protected at all times!
