  1. Instrument Operation Teams Status:LFI IOT and SCSOT Luca Stringhetti – IASF Bologna On behalf of LFI Instrument Operation Team And On Behalf of G. Morgante – IASF Bologna DPCs SGS-IR 24-26 January 2007

  2. LFI Instrument Operation team 1/6 The scope and outline of activity of the Instrument Operations Team (IOT) of LFI is described in LFI SIP • The Team is responsable of the control/operational/monitoring/analysis activities for LFI Instrument • The team will be derived from the Instrument Development Team (IDT) who have partecipated in development of the LFI instrument and its testing at Instrument and Satellite System Level • The IOT will be centred on the DPC • The IOT will be seen by MOC from SVT1 (During SVT0 IOT will follow the activity from Torino)

  3. LFI Instrument operation Team 2/6 The LFI IOT will be a collection of different competences and skills. It will be normally distribuited in the hardware institutes/industry with some members from the DPC. • IOT members that partecipated to Instrument Level Tests and System Level Test • System Engineering (AAS-I) • IOT Team members from IAC for OBSW maintenance • IOT members with specilist knowledge of the radiometers at each frequency (JBO/Uni Cantabria, Millilab/Ylinen, individual specialists) • IOT members that followed the development of the LIFE software

  4. LFI Instrument operation Team 3/6 The LFI IOT will be lead by the LFI Instrument Operation Manager (IOM). The IOM will be the single official point of contact for all instrument operationnal issues concerning LFI operations. • Towards MOC • Towards PSO • Towards HFI (instrument level) The IOM will depend on: • The LFI Instrument Scientist for scientific issue • The technical expertise of the instrument specialists of IOT

  5. LFI Instrument operation Team 4/6 Nominal Operations • IOT @DPC • 6 days/week (on Saturday half a day) • 8 hours/day • Telephone traceability when required • Extended hours during specific mission situations (instrument contingency, etc…) Commissioning & CPV • IOT @MOC with DPC support • IOT @DPC (Smooth Transition) • 7 days/week • 12 hours/day • Telephone traceability when required • Up to 12 Hours a day including weekend Post-operations • 5 days/week, 8 hours/day ………………………….up to 2 IOT members ………………………….up to 6 IOT members ………………………….up to 4 IOT members

  6. LFI Instrument operation Team 5/6 Nominal Operations (Routine) • No Alarm – All green. • One IOT member supports DPC for TQL/TMH, DQR and LIFE daily activity. • IOM (or deputy) attends Daily Meeting. Nominal Operations (Planet Scanning) • No Alarm – All green. • The Planet Scanning activity is well planned in advance • One IOT member supports DPC for TQL/TMH, DQR and LIFE daily activity. • One Instrument Specialist is in DPC to follow the Planet Scanning. • On request by IOM IOT members are involved in Beam Reconstruction. • IOM attends daily meeting. Examples of IOT management

  7. LFI Instrument operation Team 6/6 Contingency • Alarm (somewhere….). • One IOT member supports DPC for TQL/TMH, DQR and LIFE daily activity. • IOM is called by MOC or from DPC (depends from which type of alarm occurred). • IOM activates the specialists needed to solve the problem. Patch OBSW • Planned activity • One IOT member supports DPC for TQL/TMH, DQR and LIFE daily activity. • One Instrument Specialist is in DPC to follow the Patch and Dump results made by MOC • On request IOT members are involved by the IOM • IOM attends daily meeting During the Patching activity done by MOC Before the patch uplink activity IOT is requested to follow a validation process of the new OBSW IOT Specialists are involved in: • Updating of OBSW and perform its validation (IAC) • Performing OBSW validation using at Instrument Level using LFI AVM (TBC) • Performing with DPC a validation (If needed) of the interface with DPC • Updating of the LFI User Manual

  8. SCS Ops Team Staffing 1/2 • SCS Operation Team(SCSOT) is… • …responsible for all SCS control/operational/monitoring/analysis activities • …an independent subsection of the LFI IOT at the LFI DPC • …lead by the SCS Ops Manager (G. Morgante, IASF-Bo, LFI), the single contact point to IOT’s, DPC’s, MOC, PSO for all SCS activities • …built on the expertise of SCS development and testing teams. It is composed by: • LFI members (Ops definition, data analysis, SCS activities management) • JPL member(s) (technical support to Ops definition and data analysis) • HFI members (LPSC, Grenoble, SCE HW & SW support, data analysis)

  9. SCS Ops TeamStaffing 2/2 Nominal Operations • SCSOT @ DPC (up to 2 members) • 6 days/week • 8 hours/day (5 on Saturday) → RTA/QLA on IWS (+ laptop and/or desktop by LFI) • On-call availability when required (SCSOM and/or deputy) • Extended hours (up to 12/7) during specific mission situations Commissioning & CPV • SCSOT @ MOC with DPC support (up to 4 members, 6 if 24/7 is required) • SCSOT @ DPC (up to 2 members) • 7 days/week • 12 hours/day → RTA/QLA no-stop on IWS (+ laptop and/or desktop by LFI) • On-call availability 24/7 (SCSOM and/or deputy) • Extended hours (up to 12/7) during specific mission situations Post-operations • On-call support to data analysis (all SCSOT members)

  10. Conclusions The Instrument Operation Team is still under construction…..but • IOT specialist members of the radiometers for each frequency, for the SCS, and of the OBSW have been identify from the IDT • LFI IOT has already started its activity during FM ILT campaign in AAS-I and it is about to start supporting the System tests at Satellite Level
