  1. BP És la unitat de temps que s’utilitza en les datacions geològiques per tal d’establir un ordre en el temps transcorregut en aquest planeta. BP, són unes sigles en llengua anglosaxona; ”before” “present”, és a dir “abans del present”. El present és considerat l’any 1950 del nostre calendari, i per tant l’any zero del calendari BP, ja que aquest any va ser el primer any que es va fer la primera datació amb radioisòtops. Aquesta unitat ha estat creada per tal d’arribar a un consens entre la comunitat científica, ja que no arreu del món s’empra el mateix calendari.
